Congressman Roco denies extortion charge, says it's a demolition job

Camarines Sur Rep. Sulpicio Roco today flatly and categorically denied that he had extorted money from a certain Maria Rowena Sambeli-Enesio allegedly in exchange for business and textbook contracts with the Department of Education.
The congressman, who is a younger brother of presidential hopeful and former Senator Raul Roco was reacting to a report which stated that Enesio has filed before the Ombudsman a complaint against him and two other relatives. [Full Story]

Cho Roco named One of the Most Outstanding Solons again

Cong. Cho Roco has been named one of the Most Oustanding Neophyte Congressmen for the year 2002, repeating a feat he achieved in the previous year.
The award is jointly sponsored by the Berhad Lending Investments, Reserve Soldiers Union and the Makati Graduate School.
Cho Roco also exemplified excellence as Mayor of Naga City, premier city of Bicol. Under his three-year watch, City Hall garnered major distinctions capped by AsiaWeek's naming of Naga as one of the Most Improved Cities.

For spending infra funds on Naga: Legal action sought against Capitol

The Commission on Audit (COA) should take action on possible violations committed by the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur when it constructed infrastructure projects in Naga City without even the courtesy of consulting the local government unit concerned. This, if the local branch of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) would hesitate to pursue appropriate legal action against the Provincial Capitol.

Rocos speak out against looming war in Iraq

Congresman Cho Roco of the Second District of Camarines Sur says no to the war against Iraq. This, as his brother, former Senator and resigned Department of Education Secretary Raul Roco reminded President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo that the constitution renounces war as an instrument of national policy.

Cap on govt. borrowing sought

Once House Bill 5606 becomes a law, government will have to be more careful in how much it borrows. The bill, filed recently in the lower house, provides limits on public debt in order to ensure long term financial sustainability through fiscal discipline.

Cho says no to privatization of rice imports

QUEZON CITY - Representative Cho Roco (Aksyon Demokratiko, 2nd District, Cam. Sur) is opposed to the passage of a bill that would grant the private sector authority to import rice, at the same time levying tariffs instead of imposing quantitative restrictions on rice imports. This surfaced in the ongoing hearings on House Bill 3339, introduced by House Speaker Jose De Venecia and Cong. Benjamin A. Cruz, before the House Committee on Agriculture, Food & Fisheries of which Roco is a member.

Emergency Employment Bill filed

Congressman Sulpicio ‘Cho’ Roco of the second district of Camarines Sur has filed as co-author a bill that would ensure additional employment opportunities for all Filipinos.
House Bill 5404, introduced by Representatives Vicente A. Sandoval of the 1st District of Palawan and Federico S. Sandoval II of the lone district of Malabon City-Navotas, provides that all government infrastructure projects costing P1 million and below shall be implemented by the local government units where the projects are located.
